Reddit is changing its policy: Companies will no longer be able to use user data
Reddit has announced a new policy that prohibits artificial intelligence companies from using user data for free to train their models.
Here's What We Know
The platform now requires companies to sign licence agreements for access to its data.
Reddit, which used to make money by licensing its data, is now forced to change its strategy due to new security and privacy requirements. While the social network is committed to maintaining access to its data for researchers and non-profit organisations, it is creating more restrictions for commercial purposes, such as training chatbots and large language models.
The new policy also emphasises the rights of users to control their personal information. Reddit enshrines the right of users to opt out of sharing their data with artificial intelligence companies and prevents this information from being misused for spamming or harassment purposes.
