"Ukrposhta to auction parcels that have not been picked up within six months
Parcels that have been in their Ukrposhta warehouses for six months will now be sold at auctions on the Prozzoro.Sale network.
Here's What We Know
Ukrposhta sends back postal items that the recipient has not picked up within two weeks to the sender. If the sender also fails to pick up the parcel within two weeks, it will be sent to a specially equipped warehouse where it will be stored for six months. During this period, both the recipient and the sender have the right to receive the parcel upon request. If they fail to do so for some reason, the parcel may be sold at auction.
A similar approach is common among international postal operators and logistics companies such as Amazon, USPS, FedEx, Royal Mail, and many others.
The initial price for each parcel will be ten hryvnias, but they will be sold in batches of up to 100 units. This will allow the company to reduce storage and logistics costs, offsetting them through auction proceeds.
One of the key aspects of the innovation is to maintain the anonymity of the goods sent. Neither the company nor the buyers will have any prior knowledge of the contents of the consignments being sold.
Igor Smelyansky, CEO of Ukrposhta, stressed that the company currently has more than 10,000 uncollected parcels in its warehouses. He also warned consumers against fraudulent actions, stressing that only group lots, not individual parcels, will be sold at auctions.
