Beowulf reboot: Jeff Bridges, Bryan Cranston and Dave Batista will star in the lead roles of the Grendel film
Henson's film adaptation of John Gardner's novel Grendel will reportedly star Jeff Bridges, Bryan Cranston and Dave Bautista in the lead roles.
Here's What We Know
The story of Beowulf was previously adapted in 2007 under the direction of Robert Zemeckis, starring Ray Winstone, Crispin Glover, Angelina Jolie and Anthony Hopkins. The epic, then based on the poem of the same name, told the events from the perspective of the titular monster. The film used advanced motion capture technology to create realistic digital images of the characters.
However, Henson's adaptation will be presented with a new cast and interpretation of the story, centred on Gardner's version of the novel.
The lead roles in the new Grendel have already been cast: Jeff Bridges will play Grendel, Dave Batista will play Beowulf, and Bryan Cranston will play King Hrothgar.
Also announced are the actors who will play supporting roles: Thomasin McKenzie will play Queen Welthae, Aidan Turner will play the warrior Unferth, and musician T Bone Burnett will be Shaper, a blind storyteller and harpist in the court of Hrothgar, who will also provide the musical accompaniment.
The film will be directed by Robert D. Krzykowski, best known for The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot.
Here's What The Movie Is About
The story centres on Beowulf, a brave hero of the Scandinavian tribe of Geats. He comes to the aid of King Hrothgar, ruler of the Danish kingdom, whose kingdom is plagued by the attacks of the powerful monster Grendel.
