There was a glitch in the Bing API that caused Microsoft's web search features Copilot, DuckDuckGo and ChatGPT to stop working
Yesterday, 23 May, there were glitches in the work of Microsoft's search engine Bing. At first, the Internet search did not work at all, then after a few hours the search results began to be displayed correctly. Also malfunctions appeared in such services as Copilot, DuckDuckGo and ChatGPT.
Here's What We Know
The glitches started appearing in the search engine itself, as well as in the Bing application programming interface (API), meaning that other services using Bing were also not working properly.
Two alternative search engines, DuckDuckGo and Ecosia, which rely on Bing search results, produced no search results. Microsoft Copilot is still malfunctioning. ChatGPT Plus subscribers who have access to the search were also getting an error when searching for something.
This glitch has once again shown that access to the internet depends on a few tech companies. If the API stops working for any reason, many services are affected.
In this particular situation, the role of the Bing API is important. Even though Google is now dominant, many services still rely on the capabilities of the Bing API.
Microsoft representatives have not yet commented on the situation.
