Sony has officially confirmed the release of the PlayStation VR2 headset to PC adapter - it will be available in August
Last week, it was revealed that Sony had registered an adapter to connect the PlayStation VR2 headset to PC.
The device was expected to be unveiled at the State of Play show, which took place on 31 May, but Sony only revealed its plans today.
Here's What We Know
A PlayStation VR2 PC adapter will indeed be available, which will allow the PS VR2 virtual reality headset to connect not only to the PS5, but also to the PC.
While the helmet connects to the PS5 with an almost normal USB-C cable, PC gamers will have to purchase a $60 adapter to use it.
This will go on sale on 7 August, at the same time as the launch of official VR2 support on PC.
To run games through Sony's headset, you'll need to have a DisplayPort 1.4 compatible cable, as well as the PlayStation VR2 app and SteamVR installed on PC.
Not all of the VR helmet's functionality will be offered on PC. For example, HDR, helmet recoil, pupil tracking and haptic feedback will be disabled. But Sony will provide support for simplified vibration on controllers, 2000×2040 resolution per eye, 110-degree viewing angle, finger-touch detection, real-world peek mode, and a limited version of dimpled rendering (without pupil tracking) and 3D audio in compatible games (but using SteamVR technology, not Tempest 3D AudioTech like on the PS5).
The arrival of such an adapter could have a significant impact on the popularisation of PS VR2, as the boundaries of its use are expanded.
