Insider: Final Fantasy IX remake could be announced as early as this month, with a release in 2025
It has been repeatedly reported online that Square Enix is preparing a remake of Final Fantasy IX.
The company does not directly comment on these rumours, but as fans of the series thought, it indirectly hinted that it might be true in the Dawntrail add-on for Final Fantasy XIV: among the DLC bonuses the developers promise items in the style of Final Fantasy IX.
The remake is expected to be announced in the near future, but it looks like we won't have to wait long for its release either.
Here's What We Know
Well-known insider Midori, whose information about Japanese games is almost always confirmed, has reported that the development of the Final Fantasy 9 remake has not been cancelled and what's more - it is far advanced. According to Midori's sources, at one point Square Enix commissioned a contractor to create an updated version of the acclaimed game, but was disappointed with the result, cancelled the contract and started working on the game again on its own.
Midori speculates that the Final Fantasy IX remake will be announced as early as this month, most likely at one of the upcoming shows. The insider believes Square Enix will release the game as early as 2025.
Development of this title is now very far along.

But I do not have any firm information on the scope of this title or a firm release period right now.
This title could release before the end of this fiscal year, but I am not certain right now.
Recall, the original Final Fantasy IX was released in 2000 and is still the highest rated game of the franchise according to Metacritic.
