After the release of The War Within expansion, Blizzard may add "story difficulty" to all raids in World of Warcraft
One of the main innovations of The War Within addon for World of Warcraft will be the appearance of "story difficulty" of raids, which will allow players to go through them alone or in a small company not for the sake of getting valuable rewards, but in order to learn the global plot and its details.
At first this option will be available only in new raids, but it seems that in time it may open in all other raids.
Here's What We Know
World of Warcraft assistant game director Morgan Day revealed that Blizzard is considering adding reduced difficulty to all raids in the game, not just the ones that will appear in The War Within.
This idea is due to the fact that under the current system, players who don't participate in raids miss out on a huge chunk of World of Warcraft's global story, which cannot be accessed in any other way in the game itself.
This option will be based on the "Chromie Time" mechanic that appeared in the Shadowlands expansion, which allows players to choose the story of any expansion and develop a character while progressing through it.
This prompted the thought: what if "story mode" could be used to help players who have reached the required level to complete the narrative and single-handedly experience classic raid moments on their way to max level? We've often talked about how cool it would be if you could go through Wrath of the Lich King in Chromie Time and defeat Arthas at the end. How cool that would be! Because right now everything ends up being "wait, what's going on?".
Of course, with the introduction of such an option, the high difficulty of raids will not go anywhere and will be available to all comers, but the developers believe that the story content should be available to casual players.
