Is Capcom on to something? PC version of the original Resident Evil has a new age rating in Europe
For some time now there has been a rumour on the net that Capcom is supposedly planning to release either a remake or a remaster of the first part of the Resident Evil series in 2026 to celebrate its thirtieth anniversary.
A number of sources claim that this is true, while others deny the information. Whether it is true or not is still unknown, but there is an interesting hint that the Japanese developer is planning something.
Here's What We Know
Gematsu portal reported that the European Certification Commission has assigned a new age rating to the PC-version of Resident Evil, which, remember, was released in 1996 and, obviously, does not need such procedures.
The original Resident Evil (1996) has been rated for PC in Europe. Resident Evil was technically already released for PC in 1996, but I guess it's not actually available via Steam or any digital marketplaces these days. pic.twitter.com/hVHlkCWRrrx

Of course, there was immediate speculation that Capcom plans to release, if not a remake/remaster, then at least make the original game (not the 2015 re-release) available on Steam and other modern platforms.
The realism of such an assumption remains questionable, so it's best to wait for an official announcement from Capcom. Besides, sometimes (extremely rarely) older games get re-certified and it doesn't lead to re-releases.
