In response to the new alliance between Russia and the DPRK: South Korea to lift ban on transfer of lethal weapons to Ukraine

South Korea will change its position on military support for Ukraine, namely, it will cancel its policy of banning the transfer of lethal weapons to a country at war.

Here's What We Know

Seoul made an important decision against the backdrop of Russia signing a strategic comprehensive partnership with North Korea at a meeting in Pyongyang on 19 June. It is worth noting that Russia has promised to help the DPRK with weapons, including technology, and to intervene in the war in case of an attack on it. It is not surprising that South Korea has reconsidered its policy of supplying arms to Ukraine.

Interestingly, the South Korean government has promised to expand the list of substation goods and generally announced toughening of relations with Russia. For Ukraine, this policy change means a significant expansion of opportunities to obtain or purchase a variety of modern weapons from Korean manufacturers.

And because the Korean defence industry is quite flexible, Ukraine will be able to receive its orders quite quickly.
