Solar stations and recycled plastic: how Samsung promotes environmental activities
2023 was a year of significant sustainability achievements for Samsung. The company has demonstrated a clear and unwavering commitment to its goals of environmental protection, social responsibility, and improved corporate governance.
Here's What We Know
Focus on achieving zero emissions:
- Device eXperience (DX) achieved 93.4% renewable energy use, moving closer to its goal of achieving zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030.
- Device Solutions (DS) reduced its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 11.6% compared to 2022 by installing new gas treatment and heat recovery systems.
- We signed agreements to purchase electricity from renewable sources in Korea, which will provide 60 megawatts of electricity from solar power plants.
- E-waste recovery and recycling programmes have been expanded to more than 70 countries.
- The plastic parts used in the production of the phone are made from 25% recycled resin.
- The Galaxy S24 series was the first to use recycled rare earth elements and more recycled plastic than previous models.
Samsung has received platinum certification from the Alliance for Water Stewardship for environmentally responsible water management at its facilities in South Korea.
Social responsibility:
- Samsung aims to double the number of women in leadership positions by 2030.
- Stellar Forest, an inclusive workplace for people with developmental disabilities, was opened.
Data protection and security:
Samsung's Knox platform is integrated into home appliances for better data protection.
The firmware update support period for some mobile devices, such as the Galaxy S24, has been extended to seven years.
