Ukraine to receive more than 2,500 drones from Latvia as part of the "Drone Coalition"

The Ministry of Defence of Latvia will supply Ukraine with more than 2,500 attack drones in July.

Here's What We Know

Ukraine will receive the first batch of 300 drones "in the coming days", the ministry said in a press release. This €4 million aid package includes drones of various types manufactured by Latvian companies.

More recently, in April and May, Latvia also handed over 135 UAVs worth about a million euros to Ukraine. It is worth noting that these deliveries are part of the UAV Coalition, a group of 14 countries that have agreed to help Ukraine with unmanned systems to protect against Russian aggression.

"The Drone Coalition is gaining momentum. The next package will include more than 2,500 drones produced by seven Latvian companies," said Latvian Defence Minister Andris Sprūds.

This year, Riga is investing about €20 million in the UAV Coalition, half of which will be purchased from domestic manufacturers.

"Procurement volumes will be divided into several procurements to enable companies to gradually increase production volumes, as well as to enable them to adapt to changes in technical specifications in accordance with the requirements of Ukraine," the ministry said in a statement.

The "Drone Coalition", which includes Latvia, Ukraine, the UK, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Estonia and others, has raised €500 million to purchase unmanned systems for Ukraine.
