The question is settled: the first cyber sports Olympics will be held in Saudi Arabia in 2025
A few weeks ago, the head of the Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, said that during the Summer Olympics in Paris, the organisation would consider the creation of a cybersport Olympics. And although the games in the French capital have not yet started, it seems that the decision to hold digital competitions has already been made.
Here's What We Know
A favourable decision on cybersport competitions is probably so imminent that the International Olympic Committee has already entered into a twelve-year agreement with the Saudi Arabian National Olympic Committee.
In 2025, that country will host the first Olympics for cyber sports gaming.
Thomas Bach noted that:
By working with the Saudi Arabian NOC, we have also ensured that the Olympic values are upheld, in particular with regard to the selection of games included in the programme, the promotion of gender equality and engagement with a young audience that is passionate about cyber sports.
According to Olympic principles, games should represent sporting disciplines and be free of any violence. Therefore, gamers will not see at such competitions all favourite Counter-Strike, DOTA 2, Call of Duty, Apex Legends, League of Legends and other competitive games, where there is at least a hint of any kind of violence.
Recall, the Summer Olympics in Paris will be held from 26 July to 11 August.
