Google updates its weather widgets on the home screen

Google is working on updating its weather widgets on the home screen to replace the existing Pixel-exclusive widgets and make them available to all Android devices.

Here's What We Know

According to information obtained from APK Insight, the updated widgets will have a similar design to the current app, but with some key improvements.

  • More information: The city will be placed in the top left corner with the temperature, as well as the highest and lowest temperatures for the day. On the right, there will be a status icon and description, as well as a refresh button.
  • Extended forecast: The six-hour forecast will replace the four-hour forecast that was previously available.
  • Three-day forecast: A new widget has been added that shows a three-day weather forecast.
  • Portrait mode: A portrait widget is available that shows the city, highest and lowest temperatures.
  • Light and dark themes: Widgets are available in both light and dark themes, and the dark theme uses the old Google Weather icon set.

The new widgets are expected to become available with the release of Android 15, which will include a Pixel Weather section in the widget selection, as well as a Pixel Weather background service for integration with the Google Clock app.

Although Google has yet to officially announce the update, the APKs found in the leaked files suggest that the release is imminent.
