In case Trump wins: UK, Germany sign defence pact to support Ukraine

Britain and Germany sign a defence pact aimed at supporting Ukraine in the event that Donald Trump wins the US presidential election.

Here's What We Know

The new pact was concluded after a meeting between the new UK Defence Secretary, John Healey, and German Defence Minister, Boris Pistorius. The main goal is to maintain the level of support in case the US suddenly reduces it.

The main areas that may be affected in the event of a Trump presidency are the export of missile systems, the receipt of intelligence information from the US and critical systems to ensure the protection of European countries from cyber attacks.

The pact also provides for joint arms production and cooperation in military technology. First and foremost, we are talking about long-range missiles, including ballistic and cruise missiles, long-range air defence systems, modern reconnaissance satellite systems, etc. Such a course will reduce dependence on external suppliers and increase readiness to respond to new threats.

The pact will also provide support for Ukraine in the war against Russia, as the UK and Germany play one of the most important roles in this regard.

"Our new defence declaration between the United Kingdom and Germany will launch a deep, new defence relationship built on the shared values of our nations," Healy said.
