Brazil freezes Starlink accounts: X prepares to close in the country
A Brazilian court has blocked Starlink's bank accounts in the country amid an escalating conflict with X. The move is a response to court orders against the social network, Reuters reports.
Here's What We Know
Brazilian Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Morais threatens to completely shut down X in the country.
Elon Musk, the owner of X, has been in a dispute with Morais for several months over demands to block certain accounts in Brazil. At the beginning of the month, X closed its operations in the country, considering these orders to be censorship.
Now Morais is trying to put pressure on X through SpaceX-owned Starlink. Starlink said that the decision to freeze the accounts was made without due process and promised to resolve the issue legally.
Morais also threatens to completely shut down X in Brazil if the company does not appoint a legal representative in the country. X said that it expects a decision on the closure in the near future, as it is not prepared to violate Brazilian laws.
