Google Pixel 9 has increased requirements for fast charging: devices with less than 20W of power are now considered slow
Google has introduced a new approach to identifying fast chargers in the Pixel 9 series of smartphones. From now on, any charger that delivers less than 20W of power is not considered fast.
Here's What We Know
The changes in the definition of "fast charging" have been implemented only on Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold devices. APKMirror founder Artem Rusakovsky noticed that his Pixel 9 Pro XL no longer shows the text "fast charging" on the lock screen when a charger with a power of less than 20 watts is connected. Instead, the phone only indicates the time when charging is complete.
Also, the Pixel 9 Pro XL annoyingly removed the "Charging rapidly" and replaced it with an ETA. While the ETA is useful, I can no longer easily tell if I'm connected to a "fast" charger or not.

Maybe the Google 45W charger does still show "charging rapidly"? But nothing I've... pic.twitter.com/69hDi5WiGZ
This indicates that Google has raised the bar for qualifying chargers as "fast". According to Android Authority, a minimum of 20W of power is now required to display the fast charging notification.
Despite the changes affecting only the Pixel 9 series, there is a possibility that Google will eventually apply this criterion to other Android smartphones. However, there is no official confirmation from Google regarding these changes for all Android smartphones.
