Amazon's Alexa will use Claude AI from Anthropic

Amazon continues to integrate Anthropic's Claude into Alexa, which is not surprising as Amazon invested $4 billion in Anthropic last year. However, not everyone is convinced of the success of this step.

Here's What We Know

Amazon employees doubt that customers will be willing to pay a minimum of $60 per year to use Alexa with Claude, while Apple Intelligence, Gemini, and other AI models are often available for free.

Amazon wanted to use its own AI model for the new Alexa.

In addition, there is the issue of regulation. The UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has launched an investigation into Amazon's funding of Anthropic, considering it part of the risk that large tech companies can circumvent antitrust laws through large investments.

If the CMA and other regulators find violations, they may require changes that will block or delay the Claude-based Alexa update.
