Concord shooter died without regaining consciousness: Sony shuts down servers of failed game and refunds money

The release of the competitive shooter Concord will definitely go down in the history of video games as one of the most notorious failures and, perhaps, as the main disaster of Sony's gaming division. Gamers were immediately extremely sceptical about the Firewalk project, but no one expected such a deplorable release.

According to analysts, they managed to sell only 25 thousand copies of the game, and in Steam the peak online did not reach 700 people.

Against the background of such a negative Sony made a very radical decision.

Here's What We Know

The developers announced that on 6 September they will shut down Concord servers on PC and PlayStation 5.

At the moment Sony is not talking about a complete abandonment of Concord, instead Firewalk studio will try to find a way to solve the main shortcomings of the shooter and will attempt to resuscitate the stillborn game.

There have been failed releases in the history of the industry, after which the developers completely overhauled the project, but only a few times it led to positive results. Perhaps the most successful example of this metamorphosis is Final Fantasy XIV, which was harshly criticised on release, but is now one of the most beloved MMORPGs.

To be honest, it's unlikely that Concord can be salvaged in any way, but we'll see what Sony comes up with.

In the meantime, the company is starting the refund process. On the PlayStation Store, it could take 30 to 60 days, while on Steam and Epic Games Store customers will be sent a refund confirmation. But those who bought the physical edition of Concord will have to contact the retail shops where the purchase was made and hope that the seller will go their way.
