Rumour: iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will get ProMotion 120Hz displays

According to Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants, the standard iPhone 17 and its slimmer version, known as the "iPhone 17 Air", can be equipped with ProMotion displays with refresh rates of up to 120Hz. This will provide smoother scrolling and better video quality.

In addition, ProMotion technology will allow new models to automatically lower the refresh rate to save energy.

For example, the iPhone 13 Pro can lower the frequency to 10 Hz, and newer models can lower it to 1 Hz. As for the iPhone 17 and 17 Air, it is not yet known what the minimum refresh rate will be.

Currently, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus have 60Hz displays. If rumours are true, this could significantly improve the user experience.

Apple will introduce the iPhone 17 in September 2025.
