Turkish company to open production of armoured vehicles in the UK
Turkish company Nurol Makina will set up a new armoured vehicle production facility in the UK to supply the British Army.
Here's What We Know
At the Defence Vehicle Dynamics 2024 defence exhibition, the company presented armoured vehicles of its own production, adapted to the needs of the British Army. One of the main models was the 12-tonne mine-protected Dragon 4×4 (tur. Ejder Yalçın), which was selected as part of the Medium Protected Mobility Vehicle (MPV) rearmament programme.
The Dragon is to replace the current fleet of Ridgback, Mastiff and Wolfhound mine-resistant armoured vehicles used during operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In addition, the new vehicle can also replace the FV432 Bulldog tracked armoured personnel carrier and will become the main platform for the Stormer air defence system.
The new tender for the purchase of vehicles by the British Army will include 1600 Dragon vehicles.
The second novelty presented at the exhibition was the newly developed 10-tonne NMS-L 4×4 armoured vehicle. This model is designed to meet the requirements of the UK's Light Protected Mobility (LPM) platform and is an innovative development of the company.
The NMS-L can accommodate five crew members in an armoured capsule and is equipped with an open cargo compartment. The vehicle provides STANAG Level 2 ballistic protection and Level 3a/2b mine protection.
During the demonstration at the Millbrook test site, the developers showed the operation of the NMS-L independent suspension. The vehicle is capable of reaching a top speed of 150 km/h on a paved road, with a range of 700 km at 70 km/h.
