Samsung plans to integrate RGB Edge Lighting into Odyssey gaming monitors
Samsung is planning to introduce a new lighting system known as Edge Lighting to its Odyssey line of gaming monitors.
Here's What We Know
The technology, which was previously used in Galaxy mobile devices, is known to be adapted for monitors, according to recent trademark applications in Korea, the US and Australia.
While Edge Lighting is already used in smartphones, the new applications indicate that Samsung intends to adapt the technology for gaming monitors. They relate exclusively to "gaming monitors".
The Odyssey gaming monitors already use Core Lighting and Eclipse Lighting elements to provide RGB backlighting. With Core Sync and Eclipse Sync, the monitors are illuminated in colours that match the image on the screen, enhancing the immersion of the game.
With the new Edge Lighting brand, Samsung may introduce an enhanced lighting system that complements existing technology with new RGB light bars.
However, there is a possibility that these trademark filings could be just a way to protect intellectual property, rather than an indication of an intention to launch new models with Edge Lighting. It is not yet known whether these plans will be realised in the form of actual products.
