Problem with Garmin Fenix 8: watch switches off in cold water

Owners of Garmin Fenix 8 smartwatches have reported a serious problem: some devices turn off or restart when immersed in cold water.

Here's What We Know

This problem affects the 47mm and 51mm AMOLED Fenix 8 models, while the MIP Solar versions seem to work without complaint.

On the Garmin and Reddit forums, people have complained that the watch malfunctions at water temperatures between 6 and 13 °C. This is worrying, because the manual states that the device can function in water at temperatures from 0 to 40 °C. The Fenix 8 is also certified for diving to a depth of 40 m, where the temperature can be low.

Garmin claims that the problem may be caused by software. Some sources believe it is a hardware issue.

At the time of publication, Garmin has not officially acknowledged the issue. Users who encounter this situation are advised to contact Garmin support for assistance.
