It may be for Ukraine: German concern Rheinmetall has received an order to produce hundreds of thousands of mortar shells
The largest defence concern Rheinmetall has received an order to produce hundreds of thousands of mortar shells.
Here's What We Know
The company issued a press release that does not provide specific figures, but says that an unnamed NATO country has ordered "several hundred thousand mortar shells for a NATO partner country" from Rheinmetall.
The contract is for the beginning of the third quarter of 2024, and its value corresponds to "double digits in millions of euros." The order runs until the summer of 2026, with first deliveries to begin in the summer of 2025.
The mortar shells will be manufactured by Expal Munitions S.A.U., a Spanish subsidiary of Rheinmetall.
It is not officially announced which country will receive the shells, but it can be assumed that it will be Ukraine, as it is in dire need of a huge amount of ammunition of all types.
