Metro Awakening details: the story of an important character in the series and immersive experience during the passage

We wrote that players were shown 6 minutes of gameplay of the VR game Metro Awakening. Now the authors have told us more about their project.

Here's What We Know

The game is based on the story of Serdar, a doctor who is looking for his missing wife. Throughout his journey, Serdar undergoes a profound transformation that leads him to awaken as Khan, a mystical figure who plays an important role in the Metro series. Khan is known for his deep connection with the supernatural and appears at critical moments, offering guidance to the protagonist of Metro, Artem.

So we'll be shown the events that shaped Khan into the man he is, immersing players for the first time in the philosophical struggle that shaped his path. The game will also be a great starting point for newcomers to the franchise, and offers long-time fans a story that complements the rich history they've come to love.

As for the game mechanics, a lot of them have been carried over from other Metro series, but adapted for VR.

In Metro Awakening, you will interact with a watch, a gas mask, a flashlight, a universal charger, and a lighter. Each of these items is very important for survival.

The developers say that these mechanics create a great immersive experience, making every interaction vital, and further immersing you in the atmosphere of the Metro universe.

Finally, the developers said they designed every interaction in Metro Awakening to feel natural and grounded. From wiping your gas mask to managing your backpack, every action in VR is performed manually. Without an on-screen interface to rely on, you have to adapt and survive just as you would in real life.

It should be reminded that the game is not the main one in the Metro series, as Awakening takes place in 2028. And it is not developed by the Ukrainian studio 4A Games, but by the Dutch Vertigo Games, which is known for the Arizona Sunshine series.

When We Can Expect It

Metro Awakening will be released on 7 November 2024 and will be available on Steam VR, PS VR2, and Meta Quest 2 and 3. The VR game is also available for pre-order : the regular edition costs $40, and the Deluxe edition with various bonuses will cost $45.
