MoneyGram suffered a cyberattack: customers' personal information and transaction data were stolen
US money transfer company MoneyGram has confirmed that hackers stole customers' personal information and transaction data in a cyberattack that took place on 20 September.
Here's What We Know
The company said in a statement that an unauthorised third party gained access to customer data, leading to a week-long disruption to the company's website and app. The stolen data includes names, phone numbers, postal addresses, email addresses, dates of birth and national identification numbers.
Social Security numbers, government IDs and bank accounts were also stolen. In addition, the hackers obtained transaction information, including dates and amounts, as well as criminal investigations for a limited number of customers.
MoneyGram said the investigation is in its early stages and the company is working to identify affected customers. MoneyGram did not say how many customers were affected by the attack.
