Huawei will unveil HarmonyOS NEXT as early as next week
Huawei is preparing to launch its new HarmonyOS NEXT operating system, which will completely replace Android on the company's devices.
Here's What We Know
HarmonyOS NEXT will debut next week and will be installed on the Mate 60, Mate X5 smartphones and the MatePad Pro tablet from 15 October. Unlike previous versions, the new OS will not support Android apps, emphasising Huawei's commitment to complete independence.
The company claims HarmonyOS NEXT supports 10,000 apps, covering 99.9 per cent of user needs. HarmonyOS held 17 per cent of the smartphone market in China in the first quarter of 2024, doubling its presence year-on-year. This helped it to become the second most popular mobile OS in China, overtaking Apple's iOS.
Huawei continues to work on building a self-sufficient ecosystem, offering users an alternative to Android and iOS.
