Apple promises to pay $1m to whoever can hack servers for Apple Intelligence

It looks like Apple is serious about securing Apple Intelligence and has launched a bug bounty programme for the sake of it.

Details

The company is promising big rewards for hacking the Private Cloud Compute (PCC) servers that are used to run Apple Intelligence's artificial intelligence.

PCC was originally only available to a group of researchers and security auditors. But now Apple is providing access to the source code of some of the most important parts of PCC, which will allow researchers to study its flaws.

The maximum award in the programme is $1 million. It will be awarded to the person or team that manages to run malicious code on PCC servers. The next highest reward is $250,000 and covers exploits that could allow hackers to extract user data from Apple's AI cloud.

There are also smaller rewards starting at $150,000 that will be paid to anyone who gains access to user data.

The Virtual Research Environment is available on a Mac with an Apple Silicon chip, 16GB of RAM and macOS Sequoia 15.1, and can already be run in the latest developer beta.
