Ilon Musk's US citizenship in jeopardy: he is accused of illegal work
According to the Washington Post, Elon Musk, South African multi-billionaire and head of Tesla and SpaceX, has been working illegally in the US for some time after turning down a postgraduate programme in California.
Here's What We Know
In 1995, after dropping out of Stanford University, Musk started his first company, Zip2, which was sold for $300 million four years later. Legal experts say international students cannot drop out to start a company, even if they are not paid.
Musk has previously claimed that his transition from student to entrepreneur was a "legal grey area." However, the Washington Post reports that Musk was almost certainly working without proper authorisation.
Attention to his immigration status intensified after Donald Trump announced his desire to see Musk in his administration if re-elected. Musk, for his part, supports Trump's anti-immigration policies despite his own immigration experience.
