Huge numbers and full compatibility: South Korean weapons could turn the tide of war in Ukraine's favour
After it became known that Russia was using North Korean soldiers in the war against Ukraine, it was reported that South Korea might revise its military doctrine and start direct arms deliveries to Ukraine.
Here's What We Know
South Korea is one of the world leaders in the production of high-end weapons. It is no secret that the country provides indirect military support to Ukraine by replenishing the stocks of 155 mm artillery shells to the Americans, who give theirs to the Ukrainians.
Seoul authorities have said that because of the intervention of DPRK troops in the Russian-Ukrainian war, Media: South Korea may start directly supplying Ukraine with offensive weapons in response to DPRK and Russian actions and start direct arms deliveries to Kyiv.
Many acknowledge that this move could turn the tide of the conflict in Ukraine's favour.
South Korea is a long-time partner of NATO and not only participates in joint exercises, summits and plan development, but has also harmonised its weapons to NATO standards. Korea has huge stockpiles of artillery ammunition and other weapons, as well as enormous production facilities, which neither European nor American ones can match. Thus, if South Korea officially sides with Ukraine, it will be able to supply a huge amount of ammunition in the shortest possible time, which will directly affect the course of hostilities.
South Korean weapons are fully compatible with those already used by Ukrainian troops and do not require time for modification and training of soldiers.
Ukraine and South Korea are already in talks, but it is not yet known what the countries will agree on.
