Pentagon has about $9bn left for military aid to Ukraine
The US Department of Defence said it has $9.3bn left for military aid to Ukraine.
Here's What We Know
Of this $9bn, approximately $7bn is available under the Presidential Drawdown programme. This initiative involves the transfer of weapons from the US Department of Defence. In April, Congress approved $4.3 billion for this fund, and another $2.8 billion became available after revised estimates.
In addition to the PDA, $2.2 billion is also available through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) programme, which provides long-term military assistance to Ukraine.
The Pentagon spokesman stressed that the United States plans to use all available resources to support Ukraine.
As of today, the Pentagon has already provided Ukraine with a significant portion of the promised weapons: 83 per cent of the promised 155mm artillery ammunition, GMLRS shells, PATRIOT and AMRAAM air defence missiles; 67 per cent of Stinger and HAWK missiles; 60 per cent of Small Diameter Bombs (SDB) and 105mm ammunition.
John Kirby, Strategic Communications Coordinator at the US National Security Council, stressed that President Joe Biden has pledged to use all available funds to support Ukraine during his term in office. Kirby also noted that it is important to maintain a balance so that the Pentagon can replenish its stockpile to replace the weapons that are being transferred to Ukraine.
