Mercedes-Benz eIntouro: the new electric intercity bus has a range of 500 kilometres and a battery life of up to 15 years

Daimler Buses is electrifying intercity passenger transport. The company has unveiled a near-production prototype of the Mercedes-Benz eIntouro battery-electric bus with a range of up to 500 kilometres.

Here's What We Know

The Mercedes-Benz eIntouro has received the same LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries as the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 truck. This approach is part of a strategy to harmonise components in Daimler Truck and Daimler Buses. The move reduces production costs and improves profitability.

The bus is available with one or two battery packs, each with a nominal capacity of 207 kWh. Charging with up to 300 kWh takes only 70-90 minutes depending on configuration. Other benefits of the LFP battery pack include the ability to utilise more than 95% of the capacity in real-world applications and a lifespan of up to 15 years.

The eIntouro is available in two length versions: 12.18 metres and 13.09 metres. At the same time, in terms of capacity the electric bus is not inferior to its diesel analogue - from 50 to 63 passengers.

The new bus also has a modern electronic architecture with support for over-the-air updates (OTA), which reduces the need to visit service centres. Daimler Buses has become the first manufacturer in Europe to offer OTA updates for buses.

The Mercedes-Benz eIntouro will be available for order in early 2025. The series version will make its debut in October 2025 at Busworld in Brussels. First deliveries are expected in 2026.
