Google releases the first Android 16 developer preview for developers

Google unexpectedly got ahead of schedule and released the first Android 16 developer preview.

Here's What We Know

Previously, previews of Android appeared in February-March, but this time the company changed the timing. The release of the main version of Android 16 is expected in the second quarter of 2025 from April to June, and a new minor version with updates and bug fixes may be released in the fourth quarter.

The new preview version includes updated APIs that improve photo selection, as well as support for FHIR medical records, which allows apps to work with medical data with user consent. A new version of Privacy Sandbox has also been released.

The next developer preview will be released next month. Beta versions of Android 16 will be available in January, February, and March, with the final release coming in April. To test, you can register your Pixel in the Android Beta programme.
