The finalists for the North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year 2025 awards have been named: this time, the focus is on prices
Organisers of the prestigious North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year awards have announced the finalists for 2025, and this time affordability is the main trend. The focus is on models that combine adequate cost and practicality. At the same time, electric cars, which dominated the podiums in previous years, are now almost absent.
Which models made it to the finals?
In the North American Car of the Year category, the Honda Civic Hybrid, Kia K4, and Toyota Camry made it to the finals. The average starting price of these sedans is significantly lower than previous contenders: The Kia K4 starts at $21,990, the Civic Hybrid starts at $28,750, and the hybrid Camry starts at $28,400. The premium Cadillac Celestiq, BMW 3 Series or Porsche Panamera were left out of the competition.
In the Truck of the Year category there are no surprises: Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma and updated Ram 1500. It is indicative that electric pickup trucks, in particular GMC Sierra EV and Rivian R1T, could not make it to the finals.
In the Utility Vehicle category, the finalists were the Chevrolet Equinox EV, Volkswagen ID. Buzz and Hyundai Santa Fe.
The winners of the North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year 2025 will be announced on 10 January at the Detroit Auto Show.
