Ford wants to broadcast adverts through your car's speakers and screen

Ford has patented a technology for broadcasting advertising through the car's multimedia system. The company filed a corresponding application to the US patent office back in February 2023, but recently the document was published. According to the description, the system will not only show adverts on the screen, but also play them through the car's speakers.

What's known.

The system will supposedly be able to customise the adverts depending on the route, driver data and even the sounds in the cabin. Imagine you are driving to work and the system already "knows" that you need coffee and shows an advert for the nearest coffee shop.

The system stipulates that adverts will be switched off in areas where it is prohibited by law or undesirable, and will be broadcast "safely and intelligently".

Experts are already raising doubts about the idea. ABI Research analyst Abu Miah told Automotive News that such advertising could cause drivers to feel that their private space has been violated and negatively affect Ford's reputation.

Ford representatives, in turn, say that this is only a patent, and there is no guarantee that the technology will be implemented. It is noted that registration of patents is a common practice that helps to protect ideas and build up the intellectual property portfolio.
