Hyundai Motor recalls more than 145,000 electric vehicles due to risk of power loss
Hyundai Motor, along with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), has announced a recall of more than 145,000 electric vehicles. The reason is a fault that can cause a loss of power while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.
Here's What We Know
The problem is hidden in the ICCU unit, which is responsible for charging the 12-volt battery. Due to the defect, the unit can fail and the battery can be drained to zero.
Models being recalled:
The problem affects five Hyundai and Genesis models manufactured from 2023 to 2025. The full list looks like this:
Make | Model | Years of production |
---|---|---|
Genesis | GV60 | 2023-2025 |
Genesis | GV70 Electrified | 2023-2025 |
Genesis | G80 | 2023-2024 |
Hyundai | Ioniq 5 | 2023-2024 |
Hyundai | Ioniq 6 | 2023-2025 |
Hyundai service stations will check the charging control units and associated fuses for damage. If necessary, parts will be replaced and software will be updated. The work will be performed free of charge.
Why it matters.
This is the second large-scale recall due to this problem. Hyundai already recalled about 100,000 vehicles of the same models in May. Apparently, the problem was more widespread than previously thought.
