The sequel to Beyond Good Evil 2 was first announced in 2008, and after a second announcement in 2018, there was still no clear information about the release. Michel Ancel, who left Ubisoft in 2020, explained the reasons why the project fell into production hell.

Here's What We Know

In an interview with Superpouvoir, Ancel explained that the main reason for the difficulties in development was conflicts between the management. He noted that the team had different visions: the art director wanted to constantly change the concept, while the game director wanted to create a game with generated dungeons, and Ancel himself dreamed of a space adventure. This led to confusion in the teams and a lack of clear organisation.

Ancel also expressed his resentment at being cited as a key cause of the game's problems, noting that he never questioned any of the project's decisions. He acknowledged his share of responsibility for the situation and believed that conflicts between the leaders had become a serious obstacle for the team.

In 2020, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot claimed that development of Beyond Good Evil 2 was going well. However, four years and 16 years after the initial announcement, the game still has no estimated release date. Despite this, Ubisoft assures that the project continues to be developed.
