OpenAI has announced that ChatGPT Search is now available to all free users. The feature was originally launched in October 2024 for paid subscribers. With this update, OpenAI has made ChatGPT Search publicly available by improving the user interface.

Here's What We Know

ChatGPT Search allows users to get quick and relevant answers along with links to relevant web sources. In the updated version, notable links such as Netflix or travel booking sites now appear at the top of the search results, followed by text answers from ChatGPT.

An important update is the introduction of voice search for users with advanced voice mode enabled. This feature is activated by clicking the sound wave button on the text creation panel. Voice search allows users to request real-time information on various topics such as travel destinations, weather forecasts or activity suggestions.

The iOS and Android versions of ChatGPT now integrate with the respective mapping apps on those devices (Apple Maps and Google Maps). For example, if you search for a certain hotel or restaurant, the results will be shown immediately on the map.

ChatGPT Search is now available to all users logged into their accounts on the mobile apps and website, and the advanced voice search feature will be gradually rolled out over the next week. The company has also developed an extension for Chrome and Edge browsers that allows ChatGPT to be installed as the default search engine.
