In 2024, the Australian video game industry showed steady growth, reaching revenue of A$339.1 million (approximately US$212 million).

Here's What We Know

According to the Interactive Games Entertainment Association (IGEA), 2,465 developers were employed in the Australian gaming industry in 2024. About 61% of studios plan to expand their teams in 2025, and 81% expect to maintain or increase the number of employees.

It is worth noting that 93% of Australian developers' revenue comes from abroad, which indicates the attractiveness of their products outside the mainland. Moreover, the majority of studios (85%) are focused on developing their own intellectual products.

Victoria remains the leading centre for game development in Australia, with 52% of studio headquarters located there. Overall, 82% of the industry's employees work on the east coast of the country.

IGEA CEO Ron Curry noted that generous tax incentives and direct support from the federal and state governments contribute to the success of Australian developers on the international stage.
