Meta offers free repair of Quest 2, 3 and 3S headsets out of warranty after update issues
Meta has acknowledged the issue, which was caused by a recent software update that rendered many Quest 2, Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets inoperable.
Here's What We Know
The company has posted about the issue on its forum and support centre, reassuring users that most devices are now working properly.
The issue with the update, which prevented the devices from booting up properly, was discovered a few weeks ago. Users started complaining about it on Reddit and the official Meta forum. Initially, the company did not agree to repair devices whose warranty had already expired, but later Meta began offering repair services for such devices, users reported.
Meta confirmed that the problem affects not only Quest 3S, as previously stated, but also Quest 2 and Quest 3. The company noted that most devices have now been repaired and are working normally. If your device is still unresponsive, Meta recommends contacting support for further instructions.
This outage occurred at the peak of demand for Quest headsets, which have become popular Christmas gifts. Meta Horizon recently became one of the most popular apps in the US App Store, indicating a growing interest in the company's devices.
Meta assures that it is working to ensure that all users can quickly get their devices back to normal, and also provides support for those whose warranty has already expired.
