It is reported that Samsung and Apple may also come up with smartphones with 6,000mAh batteries and above
According to a new report, Samsung and Apple may start using silicon-carbon (Si-C) batteries in their devices. Chinese smartphone makers have already adopted the technology, allowing them to equip their devices with batteries with capacities of more than 6,000 mAh. While Samsung and Apple are limited to batteries with capacities up to 5,000 mAh, even in their flagship models like the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Here's What We Know
Samsung is reportedly actively involved in the development of silicon-carbon battery materials, but it's not yet clear when the technology will be incorporated into commercial devices. Apple, for its part, is taking a more cautious approach, in keeping with its history of slow adoption of new technologies.
Silicon-carbon batteries have a higher energy density, allowing for more battery capacity in the same physical area. This solves a key problem for premium smartphones - the balance between battery life and performance. However, despite the benefits, Samsung and Apple may face challenges in bringing this technology to their flagship lines, including engineering challenges and high development and manufacturing costs.
It is currently unknown when the first smartphones from Samsung and Apple with the new battery types will appear.
