Continental has developed the "Window Projection" system, which can project images onto the rear side windows. Any kind of information can be displayed, from the battery charging status of an electric car to the logos of your favourite sports team.

Here's What We Know

When the system is activated, the window is completely darkened electrically to ensure optimum image display. A compact projection unit installed in the car's roof lining projects content onto the side window. Visible from the outside, the projection displays the content in high resolution directly on the window glass. The projector takes up little space, less than half a litre. Although Continental engineers are already working on the next generation, which should be even more compact.

The Window Projection system integrates eTravel.companion, which uses artificial intelligence to display relevant information. As Continental explained, "based on data, learnt preferences and the current situation, the software generates real-time suggestions that can be displayed on the rear windows before boarding the car."

For example, the car can recognise whether a driver is heading to a stadium to watch a game of their favourite team. The e-companion then offers to display the club's logo along with other settings on the side windows. It can also display the remaining battery charge and route information. In this way, the driver receives personalised suggestions, such as charging stops along the route, before even getting into the car.

The projection system will be unveiled at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. About possible dates of appearance of the new technology in serial cars Continental, unfortunately, did not inform.
