The US Department of Defence has conducted an annual update of the "black list" of companies with which the American side strongly discourages doing business.

This is a routine procedure that does not attract much attention from ordinary citizens, much less gamers. But this year the Pentagon surprised one of the positions.

Here's What We Know

The US Blacklist includes one of the world's largest game publishers - the Chinese corporation Tencent Holdings.

The American side has information about the interaction of Tencent with Chinese military structures. Of course, representatives of the publisher refute this accusation and call the blacklisting of the company a misunderstanding.

We are not a military company or supplier. Unlike sanctions or export control measures, this list does not affect our business. However, we will work with the Department of Defence (US) to clear up any misunderstanding.

It is difficult to speculate how a game publisher can cooperate with the Chinese army, the only version that can be considered is advocacy involvement.

Recall, Tencent owns stakes in most of the major gaming companies in the world: in Epic Games, FromSoftware, Remedy, Krafton, Paradox, Frontier, Kadokawa, Marvelous, Bloober Team and Netmarble, as well as being the full owner of the American studio Riot Games - the author of the popular online game League of Legends and controls the activities of the Polish studio Techland. In addition, there is a strong possibility that it is Tencent to take over the French company Ubisoft, which is currently in distress.
