Fans of the Sleeping Dogs game have some disappointing news: the film adaptation, which was developed by famous actor Donnie Yen, is no longer in development. In an interview with Polygon, Yeun confirmed that the project, announced back in 2017, stopped at the development stage.

Here's What We Know

Initially, the adaptation promised to be an interesting film project, as Yen, who gained fame for the Ip Man series and his role in Rogue One, was to play the lead role of undercover cop Wei Shen. For several years, the actor has been actively working on the project, investing his own money in the development of the script and film rights.

"I spent a lot of time and effort working with the producers and even invested my own money to get the drafts and rights," said Yen. "I've been waiting for years. I really wanted to do it. Unfortunately, you know how it works in Hollywood. It was very frustrating."

This is not the first time that a project based on Sleeping Dogs has faced difficulties: plans for a sequel and spin-off were also cancelled in the 2010s.
