Renault 5 wins the 2025 Car of the Year award

The Renault 5 electric hatchback, which also has an Alpine A290 sports version, has won the 2025 Car of the Year title. The results were announced today at the Brussels Motor Show, where Renault CEO Fabrice Cambolive accepted the award.

Here's What We Know

The compact Renault 5/Alpine A290 beat the Kia EV3 and Citroën C3/ëC3 in the final round of jury voting. Here's what the final results look like:

  1. Renault 5/Alpine A290: 353 points;
  2. Kia EV3: 291 points;
  3. Citroën C3/ëC3: 215 points;
  4. Dacia Duster: 172 points;
  5. Hyundai Inster: 168 points;
  6. Cupra Terramar: 165 points;
  7. Alfa Romeo Junior: 136 points.

This award is considered the most prestigious in Europe. The jury consists of 60 automotive journalists from 23 countries.

Previous winners of Car of the Year

In 2024, the Car of the Year winner was announced at the Geneva Motor Show. Then the first place also went to electric Renault - crossover Scenic E-Tech.

2023 Car of the Year was the Jeep Avenger, and in 2022 the Kia EV6 won.
