Toyota Motor Europe has signed an agreement with Hydrogen Refueling Solutions (HRS) and ENGIE to implement next-generation hydrogen refuelling systems. The new solution will be piloted in the EU-funded RHeaDHy project.

Here's What We Know

Toyota says that one of the challenges of expanding hydrogen infrastructure for vehicles is the need for refuelling stations that can refuel both light and heavy fuel cell vehicles faster. The new Twin Mid Flow technology solves this problem by using a higher-flow dual nozzle dispenser.

The result? A 40-tonne truck will be able to get 600 km of range in 8 minutes and 900 km in 12 minutes. Smaller vehicles will be able to refuel even faster - in less than 5 minutes.

Another important aspect is the savings in the installation of refuelling stations. The innovation eliminates the need for two different types of dispensers at each refuelling station. This will significantly reduce costs and accelerate infrastructure deployment in the EU, where, according to AFIR regulations, there must be at least one public hydrogen station for every 200 kilometres by 2030.

As part of the agreement, Toyota will provide a test bed and a Twin Mid Flow-enabled truck. HRS and ENGIE will develop new hydrogen refuelling stations, which will be tested in the RHeaDHy project as early as the fourth quarter of 2025.
