Samsung Display announced a new OLED panel with a maximum brightness of 5000 nits

At MWC 2025, in Barcelona, Samsung Display announced its latest OLED panel with a peak brightness of 5000 nits.
Here's What We Know
The new panel uses On-Cell Film (OCF) technology, which eliminates the need for a polariser to improve outdoor visibility and reduce the panel's power consumption. This results in longer battery life and a lower display temperature. The new OCF panel is also 20% thinner than conventional OLED panels, making it easier to optimise the panel design, as well as improving durability and visibility.

OCF technology was first used in the Galaxy Fold 3 foldable smartphone, and is now also used in standard smartphones and foldable laptops. Samsung claims that the new panel can achieve a brightness of 5,000 nits in a 10% window and 3,000 nits when watching movies, while Chinese panels at 6,000 nits only achieve this for a window size of 1% or 5% of the total area.
Samsung claims that the new panel's brightness figures are 1.5 times higher at the same power consumption level as before. Also, for comparison, the new panel uses only 63% of power consumption for the same brightness available in previous generation OLED panels.
