Diablo IV developers want to "support the game for years"

Rod Fergusson, the general manager of the Diablo franchise, recently discussed the future of Diablo IV during an interview with IGN. Reflecting on the infamous launch problems of Diablo 3, such as the dreaded bug 37, Fergusson emphasised how catastrophic a similar situation would be for Diablo 4.
Here's What We Know
In terms of Diablo 4's longevity, Ferguson acknowledged the difficulty of supporting the game indefinitely, referring to Destiny's original ten-year vision. He stated that they wanted the game to be around for years, but were not sure if it could be considered eternal. He explained that their goal was to make sure that players see the road ahead and feel that the time they put into the game is respected.
Regarding expansions, Ferguson remained cautious, noting that Blizzard is not ready to commit to a specific release cadence. He mentioned that he has learnt from past experiences with premature announcements and that they are still building and learning.
The game's first expansion, Vessel of Hatred, arrived 18 months after launch, introducing Nahant, a region reminiscent of Kurast from Diablo 2, as well as the new Spiritborn class. Diablo 4 is currently in the Season of Sorcery, centred around the missing heads from the Whispering Tree. This season, witchcraft abilities are presented in three disciplines: Eldritch, Psyche, and Growth and Decay.
Despite the fact that Blizzard is silent about future additions, the continued support of Diablo 4 indicates that the franchise will not slow down anytime soon.
