The developers of Dragon Age: The Veilguard faced a challenge during the game's testing: players did not immediately understand the new combat system. However, thanks to the improvement of the interface design, the game received favourable reviews for the battles.

Here's What We Know

During a panel at GDC 2025, Bruno Porrio, the former lead user experience designer at BioWare, spoke about the difficulties faced by the game's testers. The combo system of primers and detonators, which allows combining character abilities for more powerful attacks, proved to be particularly challenging.

Initially, the game interface provided information about enemy weaknesses, equipment, and available companions in the upper corners of the screen, but players often overlooked these hints. This led to confusion and misunderstanding of the mechanics.

Nevertheless, the authors managed to improve the combat system, because reading the reviews, you can understand that this aspect was almost the most popular among players.
