The Telegram messenger is rapidly gaining popularity and is already the main source of communication, information and entertainment content for many users.

Pavel Durov, the creator of Telegram, reported that a significant result has been achieved.

Here's What We Know

In his Telegram channel, Durov said that the number of active users of the messenger has reached 1 billion people!

Among similar applications, the most people go to WeChat, but this platform is exclusively intra-Chinese, and among international messengers the leader remains WhatsApp with its 3 billion users, which Durov refers to as a "cheap imitation of Telegram".

Leading the way is WhatsApp - a cheap, worst imitation of Telegram. For years they've been desperately trying to copy our innovations while they burned billions on lobbying and PR campaigns to stop us. They failed. Telegram has grown, become profitable, unlike our competitors."

Durov noted that user engagement on Telegram is gradually growing, according to his data on average people open the app 21 times a day and spend 41 minutes in it.

The messenger's total revenue in 2024 is estimated at more than $547 million, while it has been unprofitable in previous years.
