It turns out that Black Jack was supposed to play a completely different character in the Minecraft film. Instead of Steve, the actor was originally supposed to embody the image of a talking pig. This role change took place "very, very, very late" in the production process, as Frans Olafsson, Senior Director of Original Content at Mojang, told Torfa.

Here's What We Know

In an interview with Variety, Olafsson explained that the film's team needed an "expert and a presenter", and that is why Black turned from a talking pig into Steve.

Interestingly, during the filming, Black became a real Minecraft fan. Olafsson gave the cast and crew Xboxes and launched private Minecraft servers. Black spent over 100 hours playing the game, becoming the "most passionate player" on the set. "He was just obsessed, hoarding things in mines, looking for lapis lazuli because he loved the sound of it," Olafsson said. "He was always saying: 'Can I mention lapis lazuli in the film?

The Minecraft film will be released on 4 April.
